Family Supportive Services (FSS)
The Family Supportive Services department oversees a variety of programs designed to offer our neighbors in need a hand up, no matter where they are on the journey of life.
The FSS Office is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, by appointment. Walk-ins will be accepted Wednesdays 10:00 - 12:00 and 1:00 - 3:00.
Walking with Moms in Need
Our Walking with Moms in Need program offers support, financial assistance, and supplies for both mom and baby to pregnant women and mothers with children up to one year old. Mothers may be eligible to receive housing assistance, monthly diapers and other baby care items, help with transportation to appointments for mom and baby, and other parenting essentials.
To inquire about signing up for this program, and for more information about community resources for mothers, please call the Center and ask for the Walking with Moms in Need program.
Counseling Services
Prince of Peace Center provides comprehensive, no-cost counseling for individuals in need of support and guidance. Our Licensed Master Social Workers, under qualified clinical supervision, are evidence-based, trauma-informed, and draw from several therapeutic approaches to best address the needs of our clients.
Crisis Intervention
An immediate and short-term emergency response program, Crisis Intervention aims to address imminent needs for our neighbors, who face barriers of knowledge, resources, skills, and support, and may find themselves unable to make a bill payment through emergent circumstances. These vulnerable individuals often face increased stress levels, negatively impacting their ability to maintain work, friendships, and stability for their families.
Upon application for Crisis Intervention, a Crisis Intervention Specialist meets one-on-one with each applicant to assess their needs. The Crisis Intervention Specialist can also refer individuals and families for other Prince of Peace Center support (food, clothing, furniture, etc.). They also provide information about and access to outside resources and agencies as a voice of advocacy for our clients.
AWESOME & Life Skills
The Assistance With Education, Shelter, Organization, Money management, and Employment (AWESOME) program offers classes in areas such as budgeting, parenting, proper nutrition, decision making, and other life skills that are necessary for maintaining stability and encouraging self-sufficiency.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis up to one month in advance. Those who attend and complete a one-day life skill class can earn a gift card; those who complete a multi-day class can earn a stipend towards a bill of their choice. Resource materials such as journals, books, etc. are provided as extra incentives when funding permits. Adult classes occur January - June and September - November.
