INTRODUCTION

The Prince of Peace Center relies heavily on volunteers in order to carry out our mission of strengthening families, building community, and reducing poverty throughout Mercer County. The Center only has few full-time employees, so volunteers play a crucial role in enabling us to offer such a wide variety of services.
badge
Prince of Peace Center has nearly 190 active volunteers who support the Center on an ongoing basis; donating an average of 615 hours each month. Each volunteer shares valuable skills, serves as organizational advocates, and provides fresh insight. In past years, volunteers hours combined totaled 14,390 hours--the equivalent of an incredible 1,798 eight-hour work days.

Each new volunteer experiences a thorough orientation session that reviews the history, mission, activities, and Child Protection policies of the Center. This ensures each volunteer is adequately prepared to offer his/ her support in the "good neighbor" spirit of merciful service.

Volunteering does not merely benefit the Center, though; it also benefits the volunteers themselves. Volunteering at Prince of Peace Center provides people with an opportunity to directly serve their neighbors in need, to interact with a marginalized section of the population that they might otherwise never encounter, and to gain a profound, personal understanding of the daily struggles faced by the marginalized members of our community.
