ABOUT THE GROTTO

The Memorial Grotto and Garden is located in what is currently the northwest corner of the Darr Street parking lot. Its focal point is a beautiful 51” statue of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. The statue stands upon a stone base and protected by a grotto enclosure. The statue is covered with a copper roof designed uniquely for this project.

The floor of the garden is constructed with two sizes and colors of brick stones, and the grotto area is walled in with stone planters holding perennial shrubs, annual flowers, and pergola-type trellises for the wisteria vines. Brass plaques acknowledge the initial sponsoring donors and/or their honorees adorn the walls of the planter closest to the statue. The stones sitting atop all the walls permit seating to accommodate individuals who choose to visit in quiet contemplation,
pBishop Trautman and Sister Clare Marie during the dedication ceremonyrayer, and spiritual renewal. Additionally, all staff, volunteers and visitors are invited at 10:15 each Friday morning (weather permitting) to join into an ecumenical and communal prayer held at the Grotto. Feel free to join us and share your prayer intention!

Bishop Donald Trautman, of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, dedicated the completed Grotto and Garden on May 19, 2005.

ABOUT THE BRICK FUND

For a donation of $100.00, the larger of the two sizes of bricks can be inscribed with a personal message of the donor's choosing and placed permanently into the floor of the Memorial Grotto. This is a wonderful way to honor a person, group, or occasion.

All proceeds from the brick fund will be used to support the Center's
Emergency Assistance program and similar services, which provide aid to the needy of the Shenango Valley.

TO BUY A BRICK

If you wish to purchase a brick, click
here for a printable form. You can also choose to call or visit the Center, and similar materials can be provided to you. We anticipate placing inscribed bricks into the ground approximately every 3 months. To date, more than 100 bricks are in place, with many others awaiting inscription.
